Publix District Manager James Mowery recently visited United Way of Central Alabama to present Publix Charities’ $569,100 donation.
This United Way’s 1923 creation (under its original name, Birmingham Community Chest) resonated with the community. Even when the stock market crashed in 1929, the organization surpassed its fundraising goal—a triumph of the giving spirit in the face of tough economic conditions.
This amazing organization continued to grow, and today it provides funds for over 80 programs and initiatives.
This donation represents a matching gift to Publix associates’ pledges to this United Way.
